The Paladin™ High-Rise Beehive handle-design is our novel take on the so-called Keyhive, the earliest example of which we've seen (and possess) is an old Kent. This handle combines the principal geometry of our standard Beehive with that of our Sherlock (Keyhole-based design). The Beehive's complex geometry posed a steep challenge for us as self-taught, designer-programmer-makers running CNC lathes. We’re highly pleased with the result of our efforts. Our design has a rounder shape (which requires larger diameter rod to make) than most other beehive handles we’ve seen, and we opted for flatter coils, which we think are more comfortable in hand. Beehive-shaped handles are even more challenging to finish well than they are to turn. We put a lot of work into ours. Whereas most would probably say the Beehive is best suited for face-lathering, the High-Rise version should make a great switch-hitter.

At present, we only offer knots containing what is commonly referred to as 2-band badger hair, the characteristics of which combine resilient (springy) shafts with soft tips. High quality knots of this type are prized for their overall performance. The resilience of 2-band hair confers optimal backbone without excessive density. As a result, 2-band knots typically deliver superior lather production and flow-through without sacrificing comfort in use. We offer these knots first and foremost because they are what we prefer to use ourselves. Please take care to note additional details regarding the various knots installed in listed brushes here.
